Thenmala Located about 72kms from Thiruvananthapuram, the State Capital of Kerala, God's Own Country, the southern most State of India. Thenmala is a small village at the foothills of Western Ghats and predominantly a forest area. The famous Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary is the most important ecotourism resource of Thenmala Ecotourism. This Wildlife Sanctuary is of about 100 sq. km. and harbors large varieties of flora and fauna.Thenmala : "Then + Mala" , i.e. in local parlance "Then" means honey and "Mala" means hillock i.e. it mean honey hills. The honey collected from Thenmala forest region is of good quality and of high medicinal value because of the unique floristic composition of the forests.

Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple, a landmark of Thiruvananthapuram, is 2000 years old. King Marthandavarma, the erstwhile founder of Travancore made Thiruvananthapuram his capital. After Marthandavarma, it remained the capital of Travancore and after independence, became the capital of State of Travancore-Cochin. In 1956, when Kerala state was formed, Thiruvananthapuram was again chosen as the capital of Kerala.
Places of interest in Trivandrum 5.The Zoological Park The Zoological Park: Located within a well-planned botanical garden, it is one of the first zoos of India. The Zoological Park has some of the rare species of wildlife. Huge trees of Frangipani and Jacaranda fringe the entire lawn. The park always appears lively with animals and birds playing and moving all around.
CPCRI The CPCRI was established in 1970 under ICAR by merging the Central Coconut research Stations at Kasargode and Kayamkulam and Central Arecanut Research Station, Vittal.It has regional stations at Kayamkulam Vittal,Minicoy,Research Centres at Kidu, Mohitnagar, Kahikuchi, Kannara. The Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) is established in 1916 and laterbrought under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) during 1970. The initial mandate of the institute was on crop husbandry of coconut, arecanut, cocoa, oilpalm, cashew and spices. The restructuring process during VII and VIII Plan resulted in the establishment of separate Research Institute/Centres for Spices, Cashew and Oilpalm, but the institute continue to maintain strong linkage with these institutes. At present the Institute has a countrywide research network of four regional stations, four research centres and 17 Centres under AICRP on palms. Besides, the institute also hosts the headquarter of Indian Society of Plantation Crops. |
